Secretary’s Report

  • Pauline and David will be away for the next three months.
  • Maureen will act as Secretary during this period.
  • Next Board Meeting: 9 February
  • Fred will clear the money spinner currently located at Brabham Woolworths.
  • Apologies and guest notifications to be directed to Graham while Club Secretary David is away.

  • Nothing to report.

President’s Report

  • Many thanks to members who attended the Camp Opportunity Swan Rotary lunch on Wednesday: Betty, David, Pauline, and Linda.

 

February Gathering: 

Sunday February 15th at the Swan View home of ex-Rotarian Garry and Sue Bennett, this will be in lieu of the meeting on Monday the 16th . I will confirm numbers on February the second and what we have done in the past is for members to supply salads and deserts so will have a sheet go around so people can tick their preferences, may be even heart-shaped chocolates! A nominal fee for the roast beef and pork that Garry and Sue are supplying will be charged but generally they donate that back to a club project.

  • Lift the Lid for Mental Health: 

Will be coordinated by Karen Beale, but will require some assistance. May 17th -  More details to follow.

  • RC Morley Event: 

Conflicts with the opening of the Midland Railway Station. However, information can be provided to those interested, please see Graham. 

  • Rotary WA District Conference
Join us in Northam from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March 2026, for a weekend of fun, fellowship and to hear some inspiring speakers.

Markets

  • City of Swan Midland Markets – 14 February
    • Expected turnout: 300–400 participants.
    • City of Swan will promote the event.
    • Club to pursue an article in the Echo

We will undoubtedly need some more marshals for the event. If you are available, please be ready to volunteer on the 9th of Feb.


Community & Service Updates - 

  • Wheelchairs for Kids:
    • Sue L reported she recently visited Wheelchairs for Kids, which reported that 6,664 wheelchairs have now been produced and distributed worldwide.
  • Australian Red Cross:
    • Alison Wilson located records from 2006/07 for individuals who have donated blood, Sue L has returned an award that was rediscovered.

Camp Opportunity:

David – Coordinator, Nik – Camper, Jack – Buddy, Rachel – Treasurer, and Graham – Bus Driver.

Shared highlights and personal experiences on the (very) recently concluded Camp Opportunity. 

  • This was David’s second year as Camp Coordinator; it is a leadership experience he is very much enjoying
  • Nik, a Camper from this year’s Camp, shared his personal highlights from Camp, he thoroughly enjoyed the Flying Fox and the Biscuit and Boat Rides.
  • Jack, was a volunteer support for the week, he was able to
  • Rachel has been the Camp Opportunity Treasurer for 2 years now, she is very happy that the Camp Opportunity experience is loved by all that attend. This is how Rachel first joined Rotary, so it holds a special place in her heart.
  • Graham, this was his second year as along as a bus driver, he has been learning a lot about himself and the campers over this years and last year’s camp.

The team of Camp Opportunity Volunteers! Camp Opportunity simply wouldn't run with out this group of amazing people!

  • David U – failed Liebherr accreditation twice, but passed on the third time
  • Rachel – no can opener in the BBQ trailer meant no beetroot at the Camp Opportunity Swan Rotary BBQ
  • Ian – must have been quick to dress today, his shirt half undone on arrival
  • David Hayes – trailer shackles left on David U’s car

Camp Opportunity Fines:

  • Rachel – attempted to get into the wrong car
  • David – gently encouraged a camper into the pool
  • Graham – being a safe bus driver
  • Various members – forgotten bathers and toiletries
  • Jack – still in “camp mode” – woke up from a nap wondering where his camper was. 

No Badges worn at Breakfast at Betty’s (first meeting of the year)

  • Travel Fines - Bill and Fred shared stories from their VIC/QLD travels – unclear whether it was a train trip or a lunch tour.
