🌏 Guest Club Presentation – Rotary Club of Ipswich

Donna Smith (member for 5 years, community leader) shared three key projects:

 

🍎 Fruit Box Program

  • Running for 3 years
  • Weekly fruit boxes donated to local schools
  • Cost: $22,000 annually
  • Funded largely by the Tough Kids event   

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Tough Kids Triathlon 

  • Running for 25 years  
  • Swim, Bike, Run event for kids 

  • Initially, started with 70 participants, now 319 

  • Winners receive medals  

  • Raised ~$19,000 to support Fruit Box

 

πŸ₯ͺ Eat Up Australia – Sandwiches for Schools  

  • Founded in Shepparton, VIC by a school leaver
  • Now Australia-wide
  • RC Ipswich makes 6,000 sandwiches three times per school term
  • Involves ~70 volunteers from local schools
  • Supports 30 schools
  • Received a grant for 15 upright freezers with RC logo for school storage

  • Date: Friday, 24 October 2025

Time: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Location: Various train stations across WA

Purpose: Raise awareness for Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign and help reach the goal of $50,000 through club sponsorships.

Rotarians from District 9423 will ride the WA Railway Network wearing red Polio T-shirts to promote the cause.

πŸ›οΈ Community/Markets – Fred & David H

  • Bassendean Markets (25 Oct) Markets – BBQ and marshals sorted. – Thank you!
    • Marshals: Arrive at 2pm for set up,
    • BBQer’: Arrive at 3.30 to assist Rachel in setting up the BBQ.
  • Midland Markets (7 Nov): Need 3 more marshals (currently have 3) – Will check in next week – Reason for shortage is many will be at the Fellowship Weekend in Beverly, WA.

❓ Quiz Night – Tails for Trivia

  • Tickets Sold: 64 of 112
  • Positive response from businesses (e.g., Adventure World, Pasta in the Valley)
  • Donations arriving via Swan Rotary PO Box – Maureen will keep an eye out for the prizes.

 

🌱 Community Garden – Graham

  • Food donated to Dream Builders for nearly 2 years
  • Producing around 3–4 boxes per week, which are very appreciated by the staff and Dream Builders
  • Beds upgraded; Spring/Summer crops underway

 

🏘️ Liebherr Update – Betty

  • This Wednesday at the Bushmead Site.
  • Thanks to: Rachel, Linda, John, Kathy, Aubrey who will be in attendance.

 

πŸ₯ SJOG Midland – Neurodiverse Support Program

  • David U, Manny and Fred meet with Maddie from SJOG this morning to discuss how the project is travelling.
  • They shared the following article and will be working on further promotional materials which will include the Swan Rotary Logo.

 

 

🧸 Children’s Ward Visit – SJOG (Sue)

  • Delivered 113 items donated with Swan Rotary branding, including; Colouring packs, knitted bears, activity kits
  • Will check in on their stock of preemie octopus’, and will make arrangements to make more if needed
  • Aubrey may have a lead on Rotary-branded bears, for the future, and will update Sue when he has more information 

 

Some ideas for future projects – to be revisited in preparation for the next rotary year
