Last night markets, quite a few people, but disappeared when the cold set in. we will be back to Sunday Morning Markets in May. A very special mention to Sue who has been showcasing Swan Rotary at the Bassendean Markets, by running a stall with information on Rotary, as well as Lucky Dips and a few other treats.
Community Garden - Graham
We will be holding another Busy Bee this Saturday Morning, starting at 9am. Where we will be preparing the garden beds for the new season of crops. if you are available please join Fred, Graham and David.
At 15, Jade Lewis had the world at her feet. She was a medal winning, aspiring young athlete with Olympic dreams. She was chosen to race in the WA State Little Athletic Team competing in Singapore and Malaysia. She broke records and won awards for her sporting achievements. She had ambition, a loving family and countless friends. Jade decided to go to rave parties and was lured into the drug scene. By 18, she was addicted to heroin and on a downward spiral into drugs, crime and violence.
In 1999, by the grace of God, Jade found freedom from drug addiction after she entered the Teen Challenge program in Esperance, graduating in 2000. Today she is on a whole new path. She is an award-winning author, regular high school speaker, parent educator, charity founder and has a passion to helping female prisoners. She is currently studying a Masters in Criminology.
It is the 20th Anniversary of Jade's book 'Golden Haze', which tells her story with addiction and how she beat it. In 1999, Jade was charged by the Magistrate and sent off to Teen Challenge, a rehabilitation centre.
Last year, was looking at ways to strengthen her knowledge on children in Justice dept.
She emailed asking if she could attend, the world congress on Justice with Children , which will be taking place from 2 to 4 June 2025 in Madrid, Spain. Which has the theme “Advancing Child-centred Justice: Preventing and Responding to Violence Affecting Children in the Justice System. as she was waning to wanting to strengthen her knowledge and voice when dealing with young people in the justice system.
They have asked Jade to be on the Oceania panel, along with magistrates, judges.
This year, Jade was able to meet with Vocational Training Team, who were here to talk on Human Trafficking. Jade made fast friends with members of the team, and caught up regularly during the visit. She loved the experience that Rotary has given her, being able to meet and connect with likeminded people who she previously would not have been able to meet.
Jade also provides her services as a public speaker to schools in the metro area, talking on topics such as; Consent Education, Drug prevention, and Vaping Education.
Social Media Strategy - David C
Candice from SJOG has provided a review of our Facebook Page, as well as the tools to create a social media strategy.
The things we need to consider are;
What do we want to see on social media that represents Swan Rotary
What is our target Audience?
Some actions going forward will be;
Using the events pages to build following and generate interest
Growing our content through regular posting
Reviewing other active Rotary Club Facebook pages to gain inspiration
Using someone external to the club to post regularly
Advertising club meetings using Facebook to help gain interest in the club

SA Drought relief project - David U
Farmers across SA, particularly in the mid-North region, are desperately trying to source enough feed for their Sheep, Cattle, Horses & more.
The board has agreed to donate the funds for 5 bales at $110 each
Mary - Support dogs, there is little support and funding for the Support Dogs for returned service men.
Kathy - SJOG Midland playground and equipment at the hospital is looking very aged and dangerous.
We had a slight change of plans this evening, while we spoke briefly on our projects, we will cover it in more depth at our next meeting.

Allan thanked all those members who attended tonight, next week will be a budget discussion and projects nights, please being along ideas for projects in the 25-26 Rotary year, as well as budgets for the projects.
