Swan Rotary Meeting - 24 February 2025,

Stand-in Sergeant Fred opened the meeting with an Acknowledgment of country and a toast to Australia and her people.
President Allan opened the meeting and welcomed all including partners Robyn, Pauline, and guest speaker Ursula from Dreambuilders Care.

Announcements
Markets - February Markets were held on Saturday 22nd. There was a good crowd, with busy periods. BBQ went well, however we need more volunteers to cook and serve.
There are more opportunities for marshalling and parking jobs through Lizzy, from the Bassendean Markets. More information to follow.
Community Garden - Fred met with Sharron the CEO of Indigo Junction, there may be more opportunities for involvement upcoming. Particularly with their Youth Projects, so watch this space. Sharon was very pleased to hear where the produce from the garden ends up, at Dreambuilders Care.
Grapevine - The Grapevine is being produced through club runner, previous editions from this year are easily accessible from the Club Runner Website, but will also continue to be emailed to members and subscribers. David C and Graham to meet to ensure our distribution list is up to date.
Swan Rotary Stall - Sue Lloyd set up Swan Rotary Stall at the Bassendean Markets. In addition to the Rotary Down Under magazine, there was the Swan Rotary 'Glam Up Your Truck' submissions and Lucky Dips that where sold ($82 worth!). This stall generated interest in Swan Rotary with 2 prospective members, a potential guest speaker, and a potential donation of funds from a local quiz night!
Changeover Night - Has been tentatively been booked for either the 4th or 5th of July. Date will be confirmed closer to the day.
Swan Rotaract - Emma Wignall, formally of Swan Rotaract, has been in touch to transfer $3,292.44 to Swan Rotary to be used to sponsor a student for the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF).
Midvale PS - Sausage Sizzle on the 25th of Feb, from 4pm. While there our contingent will speak with them about installation of a Peace Pole and a Buddy Bench.
Rotary Foundation Vocational Training Team
This exchange is being facilitated through the Rotary Foundation, and coordinated by Swan Rotary's Own, David Uhe.
Program
The team will be here for three weeks, during which time they will be meeting with local groups from several Government Agencies, such as the Department for Communities, Australian Federal Police, Welfare Agencies and Community Groups, to share knowledge and experiences in dealing with these social issues.
Rotary Meetings
Whilst here, there will be opportunities for all Rotarians to share in the team’s experiences by way of several joint club meetings being arranged, by Swan Rotary on 10th March, Willeton Rotary on 17th March, Perth Rotary on 21st March, and Rockingham Rotary on 24th March. Other joint meetings may also occur.
Rotary Conference
The Team will also be present at District Conference in Margaret River, and will be making a presentation as part of the program
Home Hosting.
During the exchange, home hosting will be an opportunity for all Rotarians, for a period of up to 5 nights, whilst the team will be undertaking their exchange roles during the day.
All Rotarians are invited to register for home hosting, and gain the experience of sharing your lifestyle with one of these professionals, each committed to the elimination of human trafficking practices around the world. An opportunity that rarely comes around.
All metropolitan Rotarians are encouraged to participate in this hosting program.
DreambuildersCare is a Low-Cost Supermarket and Op-Shop, serving our community in Midland and the City of Swan for over 10 years.
The goal of Dreambuilders Care is to provide support to the local community, and to help with the overcoming of food insecurity, with food budgets being the most elastic part of people spending.
Dreambuilders Care provides hot meals, often the first hot meal of the week, to people in low to very low socioeconomic.
The total kilograms worth of Bread, Fruit and Vegetables that was received in 2024 was the equivalent of 25 -26 semi-trailers of food.
The property that Dreambuilders is on, is currently for sale with the landlord wanting to also raise the rent. It is a purpose built space, with a commercial kitchen, cafe and shop front.
If Dreambuilders Care do have to move they will likely loose the comfort of their customers, as they service a demographic who would not be receptive to change.

Bottle Tops
Just a reminder, Durham Road School is currently at capacity for their bottle tops Recycling project due to the school break. Please consider dropping at EnviroHouse in Bayswater, who will clean, sort and pass along when DRS is back up and running.
